This policy explains what personal information Yonge St Daily collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to meet Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Short version: we collect as little as we can, we do not sell it, and you can ask us to delete it.

What we collect
- Analytics data. Pages visited, approximate location at city level, device and browser type, and how you arrived. This is collected only if you accept analytics cookies.
- Information you send us. When you use the tip, contact or advertising forms we receive what you type: typically your name, email address, your message and any file you attach.
- Newsletter details. If you subscribe, your email address and the date and record of your consent.
- Server logs. Our host records IP addresses and requests for security and troubleshooting, and retains them on its own schedule.
We do not ask for, and have no use for, payment card details, government identifiers or anything similar. If you send us that kind of information unprompted, we delete it.
Why we collect it
- To reply to you when you get in touch
- To send the newsletter you asked for
- To understand which articles are useful so we can write more of what works
- To keep the site running and secure
Cookies and consent
The site sets a small number of cookies. Some are necessary to make pages work and remember your cookie choices. Analytics cookies only load after you accept them in the banner. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings link in the banner, and you can clear cookies in your browser whenever you like.
Who else sees it
- Our web host, which stores the site and its database
- Our analytics provider, if you accepted analytics cookies
- Our email provider, if you subscribed to the newsletter
- Nobody else. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Some of these providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States, which means it may be subject to the laws of that country. We choose providers that offer standard contractual protections.
How long we keep it
Form submissions are kept while they are useful and reviewed periodically. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained on the provider’s standard schedule. Ask us to delete something and we will, unless we are legally required to keep it.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@yongestreetdaily.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
The newsletter and CASL
We only email people who asked to be emailed. There are no pre-checked boxes and we do not buy or import lists. Every message identifies us, includes a mailing address and carries a working unsubscribe link that we act on immediately.
Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
